Why Psychotherapy?

Times of change can be very difficult, whether it is a divorce, a death, a move, illness, or other life adjustments. Many people try to get through these events alone and find it overwhelming. This stress can lead to depression, anxiety, anger and unhealthy coping patterns (i.e. drinking).Therapy is a healthy way to navigate through times of adjustment. A good therapist not only listens, but also helps identify and break unhealthy patterns by replacing them with positive coping skills. These new strategies can empower a person by allowing him/her to deal with life’s struggles with more control and purpose.

Educational Background

Kerry Yonushonis has several degrees that contribute to her role as a therapist. Her Masters Degree in Social Work, with a clinical emphasis, was received from The Southern University of Illinois. While earning this degree, she was awarded the Missouri Foundation of Health Fellowship to provide therapy for multicultural individuals within St. Louis, MO. She graduated Summa cum Laude with both this degree in Social Work, and an additional Masters Degree in Education received from the University of South Carolina. Finally, her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree was awarded from The Ohio State University. The diversity of her background provides experience in dealing with an array of concerns including mental health issues, family struggles, and parent/child relationships. Additionally, her art degree serves well as a tool for clients, both children and adults, to help express themselves in an alternative method, when traditional expression is difficult.

Kerry Yonushonis has been working with children and families in various capacities since 1996. Her experience as a therapist has included working in a 28- day residential program for individuals with mental health, substance abuse, eating disorders.
