How
will this group help me?
This group incorporates cognitive- behavioral Therapy and
low intensity interpersonal/psycho dynamic interventions aimed at supporting,
motivating and facilitating personal goal attainment. The group will shift and
grow in accordance with group member’s progress.
The first phase of the group is closed. This means that
there will be no new members added during the six week phase 1. Phase 2 is
open. This means that as new participants complete phase 1 they will be added
to the phase 2 group. The total number of participants will not exceed 10 in
either group.
Phase
1
The initial phase is a highly structured
educational component designed to help you mange your own care by improving
self management skills. You will learn more about the symptoms related to
Bipolar Disorder and will identify your symptom patterns, cycles and triggers.
The Program uses a cost—benefit analysis concept to build your ability to cope
and make self care decisions. You and your fellow group members will create a
personalized action plan. This plan identifies your personal coping strategies
as related to your symptom development
Phase
2
Bipolar disorder can disrupt your life.
The next phase focuses on identifying goals that have not been reached due to
the life disruption caused by your illness. Goals are structured to maximize
the likelihood of success by creating manageable steps or sub-goals. Through
the process you are given support and encouragement by your fellow group
members and group facilitator.
