Am I depressed? check all that apply

1. I feel sad or empty for most of the day or other people in my life notice I am sad

2. I am not interested  in or feel enjoyment out of activities I once enjoyed

3. I have either lost or gained quite a bit of weight without trying.

4. I either cannot sleep at night or I am sleeping too much.

If you answered yes to 5 or more of these you need to consult a Mental Health professional for a completely assessment. If you are feeling these symptoms as a result of the physical effects of ingesting a substance ( prescription, alcohol or drugs) or related to a medical condition, you may not be depressed.  However consulting with your doctor or mental health professional is advisable  Depression is  a treatable condition.  However a complete assessment is the first step to identifying the type and severity of depression you may be suffering.

 

Am I manic?  check all that apply

1. I have distinct periods at least one week in duration of feeling abnormally and constantly  expansive or irritable

    During this period I feel

    a. my self esteem is inflated/ I feel grandiose

    b. a decreased need for sleep

    c. more talkative than usual or i feel pressured to talk

    d. my thoughts are racing through my head

    e. distracted by things that are not important

    f. more motivated to achieve goals or I feel agitated

    g. the need to engage in pleasurable activities that have a high likelihood of negative consequences ( shopping sprees, sexual indiscretions or foolish decision making)

 

If you answered yes to 4 or more of these you need to consult a Mental Health professional for a completely assessment.  Mania is  a treatable condition.  However a complete assessment is the first step to identifying if you have had manic episodes.    Like other mood disorders, properly treated people with manic episodes can live without the disturbance negatively effecting their lives.  Some people are effected by both manic episodes and periods of depression.  Should you suffer with both issues treatment and help is available to help you gain a sense of balance in your life. If you are feeling these symptoms as a result of the physical effects of ingesting a substance ( prescription, alcohol or drugs) or related to a medical condition, you may not be Manic.  However consulting with your doctor or mental health professional is advisable 

 

Am I anxious?  Check al that apply

1. I worry and feel anxious most days

2. I feel it is difficult to control the worry

3. Along with feeling anxious I feel

    a. restless or on edge

    b. easily tired out

    c. difficulty concentrating or sometimes my mind goes blank

    d. irritable

    e. muscle tension

    f. a difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or my sleep is restless

Anxiety is  a treatable condition.  However a complete assessment is the first step to identifying if you suffer from anxiety.    Like other mood disorders, properly treated people with anxiety can live without the disturbance negatively effecting their lives.   If you are feeling these symptoms as a result of the physical effects of ingesting a substance ( prescription, alcohol or drugs) or related to a medical condition, you may not have an anxiety disorder.  However consulting with your doctor or mental health professional is advisable 

 

Am I Borderline?

A lot has been written about the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.  It's symptoms are easy for most identify.  As you take this quiz, please thinking terms of this disorder showing a pattern of instability in personal relationships, a demonstration of sever impulsive behavior starting in early adulthood and a negative self concept.

1. Feeling frantic in efforts to avoid feeling abandoned

2. in personal relationships seeing your partner as ideal (exceptionally wonderful) or devalued ( the worst) .  The relationship is unstable and intense

3. Feelings of low self esteem or an unstable sense of self

4. Impulsive in areas that can cause harm ( shopping, sex, driving, substance abuse, binge eating)

5. Repeated suicidal behaviors, or gestures or threats or self mutilation 

6. Intense moods feeling down, irritable, anxious.  The mood lasts for a few hours at most

7. Always feeling empty

8. Difficulty controlling anger or constant feelings of anger

9. Feeling paranoid when under stress or feeling dissociated ( outside of the body)

If you answered yes to 5 or more of these you need to consult a Mental Health professional for a completely assessment.  Borderline Personality Disorder is  a treatable condition.  However a complete assessment is the first step to identifying and treating the disorder.    Properly treated people with Borderline can live without the disturbance negatively effecting their lives.  Some people are effected by both a personality disorder and a mod disorder.  Should you suffer with both issues treatment options are available to help you gain a sense of balance in your life.  

 

Do I have an eating disorder?

There are three types of eating disorders, Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge eating.  As a general rule of thumb if you find you are using food or food related behaviors ( binging or purging or restrictive eating or over exercising or use of laxatives, diuretics or enemas) to numb emotionally or feel in control of your life you are at high risk for an eating disorder.  Eating disorders are also apparent as an individual feels a great pressure to look a certain way or is highly critical of their body weight or shape.

If you have any concerns or questions about an eating disorder please consult a mental health professional or physician immediately.  Eating disorders are dangerous and can be in certain situations be life threatening.

 

Do I have Attention Deficit Disorder?

to be concerned with Attention Deficit Disorder an individual must have several symptoms related to either inattention or hyperactivity/ impulsivity

Inattention

1. I make careless mistakes or fail to give close attention to details

2. I have difficulty keeping my attention  on on e task

3. People say I don't listen when they talk to me

4. I have difficulty following instructions or I fail to complete tasks

5. I have difficulty organizing things

6. I don't like to do things that require a lot of sustained thinking

7. I loose thing I need ( books, tools, assignments)

8. I get distracted easily

9. I forget daily activities

Hyperactivity/ Impulsivity

1.  I find myself fidgeting often

2. I find it difficult to stay sitting down

3. I feel restless

4. I have difficulty enjoying quiet leisure activities

5. I am always on the go or feel driven

6. I talk too much

7. I interrupt or give answers before the question has been asked

8. I have difficulty waiting

9. I butt into conversations or activities without being invited

If you answered yes to 6 or more of these you need to consult a Mental Health professional for a completely assessment.  Attention Deficit Disorder  is  a treatable condition.  However a complete assessment is the first step to identifying if you have ADD or ADHD    Like other  disorders, properly treated people with  Attention problems can live without the disturbance negatively effecting their lives.   If you are feeling these symptoms as a result of the physical effects of ingesting a substance ( prescription, alcohol or drugs) or related to a medical condition, you may not be ADD/ ADHD.  However consulting with your doctor or mental health professional is advisable
